Veggie BLT's

When I'm sick, I always craving BLT's. It usually the only food I can keep down. Why? I have no clue. But it works. So last night my mother FINALLY found Morningstar Farms Veggie Bacon Strips, which smell and taste like REAL bacon!!! However, I reheated it in the microwave for too long, and ended up with bacon bit like bacon. But it still tasted INCREDIBLE!!!

Why I decided to become a Vegetarian

I few months ago, out of the blue I got sick. I have some trouble moving around, my joints, etc. Being taking out of school and home-tutored, I decided that I would spend a lot of time watching my favorite TV show, "Bones" with my mother. Well, one night I was looking at some "Bones" sites, and was reading some interviews with Emily Deschanel, who plays Dr. Temperance Brennan on the show. She talked about the benefits of becoming a vegetarian, so she inspired me to do some research. After watching some animal cruelty videos, looking at the health and environmental benefits, I made my decision: it would be better for myself, for the environment, and of course, the poor animals, if I took on a Vegetarian lifestyle. So here I am, at the beginning, and so far, I am happy with the decesion. I feel so much better about the food I'm eating. It leaves me with a light, energized feeling, rather then a heavy, sleepy feeling. I hope to chronicle my food choices, and journey as I take this step. If anyone else has stories that they would like to share, please let me know!

Last Saturday...A revelation!

Last Saturday was my 17th birthday. At this point I was doing "every-other-day" vegetarian. My family, some friends, and myself went out to eat for dinner that night. I hadn't eating meat in about 4 days, so I figured that I would just eat some nice chicken taco's. Boy was I wrong! From the second I bit into the food, I felt overwhelmingly guilty, and instantly nauseous. Apparently my body was telling me that I don't need meat after all! At this point I was really convinced that this lifestyle change was going to work! Sunday, I made a hearty bean and vegetable soup for dinner, tuesday I had a veggie burger (generic version). And tonight, I had cheese pizza (still not ready to become a vegan, hopefully that will be soon. I want to give myself time. After all, Emily Deschenal took 2 years after becoming a vegetarian to become a vegan. :D), and Boca Original Chik'n Patties (soy based, meatless "chicken patties", which in my opinion taste better then the real deal) cut up, and soaked in hot sauce, kinda like a boneless buffalo sauce. I feel so much better about my body, and I'm not as hungry since I became a vegetarian!

2nd try with Tofu

I am slowly starting my transition into becoming a vegetarian, alternating days where I still eat (certain) meats, as to slowly allow my body to adjust. Last night was my first try with tofu. I made a large mistake however, because I did not press, it, which left it rubbery, and almost like Jell-O. However, tonights Tofu Sloppy Joes are made with pressed tofu, crumbled, and cooked in place of the meat in a sloppy joe. Tastes incredible. I was afraid that it would be gross, that I wouldn't like it, but it is truly fabulous! Pictures (hopefully) to come!!!
